🎆 Fireworks & Front Porches: 4th of July Home Safety Tips You Shouldn't Ignore 🎆

July 3, 2025

The Fourth of July is a time for celebration — backyard barbecues, festive gatherings, and of course, dazzling fireworks lighting up the night sky. But as you get ready to enjoy the holiday, it’s important to keep your home and family safe. At Kirbor Homes, we believe peace of mind should be part of every celebration. 🏡❤️🤍💙

Here are some key safety tips to protect your home this Independence Day:

đźš« Keep Fireworks Away From Your Home

It might seem obvious, but every year, house fires start because fireworks are set off too close to homes, decks, garages, and landscaping.

Play it safe:

  • Light fireworks at least 30 feet away from your home, vehicles, or any structure.
  • Avoid aiming fireworks near siding, fences, or mulch beds.
  • Never launch fireworks from porches, balconies, or driveways — even if it seems convenient.

🔥 Be Careful with Grills & Outdoor Cooking

Nothing beats the smell of burgers and hot dogs grilling — but don’t let a flame ruin your day.

Grill smart:

  • Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, especially vinyl siding or wood structures.
  • Always supervise the grill and have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby.
  • Let used coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container.

🧨 Dispose of Fireworks the Right Way

Used fireworks can still pose a fire risk, even after they’ve gone out.

Do this instead:

  • Soak used fireworks in water before tossing them in the trash.
  • Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby for emergencies — and cleanup.

đź’ˇ Light Up the Night Safely

If you're hosting guests, make sure paths, porches, and steps are well-lit to prevent trips and falls.

Bonus tip: If you're using outdoor string lights, make sure they’re rated for exterior use and plugged into GFCI outlets!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Safety for Kids & Pets

Fireworks are thrilling — but loud noises and bright lights can spook pets or tempt curious kids.

Protect your loved ones:

  • Keep pets indoors with calming music or TV to drown out the noise.
  • Make sure kids are closely supervised around sparklers — they burn hotter than you think!

What Our Homebuyers Are Saying

The quality and little details were big improvements over the other homes we looked at. We weren't just looking at 'right now,' but also how the home will sell in the future. When you think about resale value and compare standard features and upgrades, they were the best!
